‘to Beirut’ is a grassroots movement that aspires to raise awareness around the world about the ‘real’ Lebanon, and its capital Beirut, through non-standard actions and events.

The first campaign is titled, ‘to Beirut : electro’.

It is built on the belief that music is a universal language, and electro is right channel for energy and lift delivery.
The objective is to raise awareness about Beirut, as a modern city of nights, lights, and life, as opposed to the despair and destruction shown in the mainstream media.
The strategy is to carry ‘the peoples’ of cities worldwide to Beirut on the high of electro tunes mixed with visuals of Beirut & Lebanon.
The task is to organize and conduct an electro music fundraising event in as many cities worldwide as possible, with Beirut & Lebanon awareness as the theme.
Each event would carry the name, ‘from [city name] to Beirut’, and would pack its lineup with DJs local to that particular city (country; region) alongside DJs from Beirut, in a sort of music dialogue across borders, cultures, & languages.
All proceeds from these fundraisers go to humanitarian & relief organizations.
It all started in Berlin, when Claudia Marquardt aka P.toile felt strongly connected to what's happening in Lebanon and decided to do something about it.
With the help of Lars Seiler, Patci Weil and Sam Rouanet, she put together a strong team to organize the first fundraiser: ‘from Berlin to Beirut’.
They contacted well established DJs and Live Performers of the electronic music scene in and around Berlin, inviting them to participate in the event on the 27th of September 2006 at the infamous Watergate; all gladly accepted.
The result was an event unlike any other ever attempted in the electro scene, with a magical line-up of the biggest names.

One month prior to the event, Jade (The Basement, Beirut) decided to reach out to the world. A group of activists was formed in order to carry the ‘from - to’’ concept further, into what has become the ‘to Beirut : electro’ campaign.
This group, comprised of Jade, Claudia Marquardt (who bridged the gaps between Lebanon and the rest of the world), & Samer Karam (who wanted to show the world the ‘real’ Lebanon [www.BloggingBeirut.com]).
Jade and Claudia proceeded to contact DJs in Paris, London... whilst securing venues and scheduling event dates.
Samer went to work on ‘www.toBeirut.org’ [the virtual locale for to Beirut] alongside production of the ‘The Other Lebanon’ Awareness film to be shown at the events.
